Has anyone had a chin with kidney stones? My 3 year old had a kidney
stone last week which the vet told me all I could do is hope it passes
and in the meantime give the chin lots of water and if it doesn't pass
he will have to perform surgery. Well, Blue did pass the stone and now
1 week later has another he is trying to pass. Does anyone know of any
vitamins or minerals I can give Blue that will prevent the stones from
reoccurring. I read in humans that magnesium, potassium and B6 work but
I do not know if they are safe for chins.

we have seen this problem in chins, not unfrequently. up the fluids and
check how much calcium he is getting and what kind.
decrease the pellets, increase hay, preferably timothy.
try cranberry juice too, in small amounts, not in the water bottle

Hi Betti, I read that cranberry, apple and grapefruit juice are not
good to drink if you have kidney stones. My vet told me to give
cranberry juice also but in humans that is a no no. He is with three
other chins and monitoring the pellet intake is hard. I am giving him
Lifeline because his appetite seems to have decreased because he does
not take his treats and shredded wheat is his favorite. I am giving him
water through a syringe which he takes sometimes and other timeshe just
lets it run out of his mouth. He was loving the cranberry juice I mixed
with his water but now I am afraid of giving it to him.

Just an FYI, it is actually recommeneded that humans take cranberry juice
with a uti or kidney problems. The article you read was COMPLETELY wrong. I
can show you at least a dozen or two medical research articles to prove it.

au contraire, we recommend cranberry juice for infections and for types
of stones, to make them pass.
frankly myself, I prefer parsley tea for stones. pass faster with less
pain in my experience.
but it is not a no no for stones. it changes the ph of the urine, and
increases outflow allowing for passing of stone.
